Verstappen wins US Grand Prix sprint to stretch F1 lead
Max Verstappen broke his eight-race losing streak by winning the US Grand Prix sprint race from pole position, increasing his Formula One championship lead over Lando Norris of McLaren to 54 points.
At Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, Carlos Sainz of Ferrari crossed the finish line in second place, 3.882 seconds after Verstappen. He overtook Norris at the beginning of the final lap, as the British driver overshot turn one and had to settle for third.
Verstappen’s win on Saturday, his first since a sprint in Austria in June, marks his fourth victory in the 100km sprints this season, with two more races left.
Oscar Piastri, beginning in 16th place, advanced to come in 10th for McLaren.
