As the continued rumblings around LIV Golf and the PGA Tour agreeing to some sort of merger continue, one man who may never be back involved on the PGA side of things is Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson was one of the first marquee names to make the switch from the PGA to LIV and has been a booster all throughout.
Additionally, Mickelson has also not been very friendly with certain opinions on the PGA Tour in general, and therefore relations are now worse.
But only this week current PGA star Wyndham Clark opened the doors to their return at the least trying to do the same for Mickelson and Johnson.
“If Dustin Johnson wants to come back and Phil Mickelson and guys that have won, Brooks, who have won majors and are most likely hall of famers, they deserve to play wherever the hell they want, because they’re so good,” Clark said.
But looking back at what Mickelson said about the PGA Tour and the current LIV players in 2023, it doesn’t seem like the 45-time winner is in a rush to go back.
Phil Mickelson’s feelings on PGA Tour return clear from 2023 comment.
Of course, time is one of the greatest healers and if things do come together at some point, Mickelson’s stance may well change.
However, back in the summer of 2023, Mickelson made no secret of his feelings towards the PGA Tour and admitted that at the time, not one single LIV player wanted to be on the PGA Tour.
Mickelson won’t play PGA Tour while Jay Monahan is around.
Phil Mickelson is never shy with his words and he’s given his take on the LIV and PGA split after it occurred.
Also, Mickelson is not in the favour of Jay Monahan and he has expressed that dislike in words too in the past.
Mickelson over on his X account reiterated that the game is like it is now largely due to Monahan.
As you can therefore see, Mickelson is not going to be in the PGA Tour as long as Monahan is one of the key players.
And, of course, in returning to this, it might be reasonable to mention that Mickelson has a right to play and make his attempts in order not to be critical of anybody neither prove anything to anyone, as successful as his career is.
Yes, you get the impression that as soon as he has finished with LIV you could quickly pack away your clubs and play the majors only when you feel like it.
