Phil Mickelson expressed his admiration for fellow LIV Golf star Paul Casey and his long-time coach Peter Kostis, following the end of their 24-year partnership over the weekend.
Casey, who boasts three PGA Tour titles and 15 DP World Tour victories in his career, had been working with Kostis since the turn of the century. However, Kostis confirmed their separation on social media, tweeting: “Every teacher/student relationship has a half-life.
“Long-term relationships are getting rarer and rarer these days and I’m proud of the number of students I’ve had for 10-15-20-30 years and even longer in a few cases!
Finally after 24 years itβs time to bid my job with Paul Casey good bye for personal reasons. The reasons are my own and personal, and I will continue to keep them that way. The rewarding past helping him become the elite ball striker as well as a world class player from the time he left ASU till the present has been a great experience and I wish him the very best for the future.
Fortunately, under the stewardship of Kostis, Casey centsaison developed into one of the leading golfers in the world to attain the third OWGR rank. In 2022, the same Englishman wanted to go the same way Mickelson and others have gone by joining LIV Golf.
Mickelson took to social media to heap praise on his fellow pros, remarking: In reply to a post of one of the popular coach β What a long and successful rut you have had together!!! βYou two should be very proud.β
Working with coach Kostis, Paul Casey confirms great success in the PGA Tour and DP World Tour events. While Casey has enjoyed a reasonable measure of success in America and Europe, he defected to the LIV series over two years ago.
Soon after his conversion, Casey had formed a partnership with the U. S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau in Crushers GC. Combined, they triumphed in the LIV Team Championship conducted in Miami, generating waves a year ago.
The Crushers however despite not clinching successive titles, bowed out in the semi-finals to IronHeads in Dallas last month; overall the best run by Casey during the year 2024 LIV season was deserving him a rank of 11 in the entire league. As a cherry to his sundae, yet again he clinched a second position in an electrifying play off of in Hong Kong with Cam Smith, though he lost to Abraham Ancer in a very close shootout.
