Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau seem to leak new LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour event

Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will face off in ‘The Showdown’ on Dec. 17, but a major new competition could be on the horizon.

There are rumors that Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are to meet PGA Tour members Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in ‘The Showdown’ on Dec. 17 – and, sparring during media availability, the LIV Golf players might have just suggested the event could morph into a new major in 2025.

This will be a match in teams of two playing on the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas and will be patterned after the Ryder Cup. When talking about ‘The Showdown 2024’ Brooks has hinted that the event could be much bigger next year.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, he hinted at a LIV vs. PGA event that would follow the Ryder Cup concept, potentially giving golf fans something big to look forward to towards the end of 2025.

“I think the showdown is a great, a showcase for bringing the two tours a bit together and I think we’re going to do next year,” said Koepka. “All of us can align and bring something bigger and better so we can have a couple more times where they can or just at least one more time where we can see most of the best players from both sides competing, more against each other.”

Koepka added that it could be a “LIV vs. PGA Tour Ryder Cup-style thing.”

Previous editions of ‘The Showdown’ were hits, and although LIV Golf and the PGA Tour are locking horns over a possible merger, Koepka sees the event blossoming into something special for spectators. “This is growing into a big thing and I think that’s what would draw the fans,” he said.

Some people take it as a casual occasion when the teams are made to entertain the fans during the off-season but, as Koepka noted, both teams play to triumph. He went on to say that should the event expand even more, the aspect of competition will be magnified. ‘Don’t tell me on the other side, they want to lose,’ Koepka fired back.

Rory doesn’t, Scottie doesn’t want to lose to us and there isn’t any way, we want to lose, we’re too competitive on our side. We don’t want to lose. This, as far as I’m concerned, isn’t anything other than just us being competitive and wanting to beat those guys and prove to them that the best players in golf are from Europe.

I really believe you have the best attitude in golf in Bryson and then one of one (if not the) most majors. Well have a number of things on our side. It appears we have to, it seems like we want to, prove to the world that we are the top two pairs.
