Hudson Swafford opened up about his frustrations after struggling to return to the PGA Tour. The American golfer was one of the early players to join LIV Golf when the breakaway series began its inaugural season in 2022.
Nevertheless, because of an injury, Swafford was inactive in the 2023 Saudi-backed league but made a comeback in 2024 via WN Lexington Herald-Leader wildcard entry from Kim, who was a past PGA Tour star. In particular, he started having problems with his performance: in the season ranking, he took the 55th place and had a lot of difficulties in trying to secure his place for the 2025 year.
Furthermore, as Swafford participated in the breakaway series, he was suspended from PGA Tour, and cannot participate in the last Saudi Circuit event before getting another chance at American circuit, for one year.
This was in an interview with Golf Channel on December 2, 2024 In the interview Swafford disclosed that he tried to reinvent himself and attempt to get back to the PGA tour although he did not find a way back to the tour. He said:
“I tried to go back [to the PGA Tour] last year. [I] talked to [Jason Gore, the Tour’s senior vice president, player advisor to the commissioner] and [Monahan] and thought I did everything pretty cordially, just told them how I felt. They could never give me an answer… Past champions are getting in a bunch of fall events, does my past champion status reinstate in September? I can’t seem to get any answers. It’s pretty frustrating.”
Notably, Swafford also competed in the LIV Golf Promotions event, taking place this week at Riyadh Golf Club. However, after scoring six over par on Friday, December 13, he failed to qualify for the weekend rounds. This setback has further dimmed his hopes of securing a spot on the LIV Golf roster for the 2025 season.
