Charlie Woods is set to play at local U.S. Open qualifier in Florida this week as he looks to earn a spot at this year’s tournament at Pinehurst No. 2… where his father Tiger has never won.

Charlie Woods is set to compete in an 18-hole U.S. Open local qualifier in Florida this week, as he looks to earn a spot at Pinehurst No. 2 this summer.

The 15-year-old golf prodigy, who’s the son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, will play at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie on Thursday with his tee off time set at 8:18am ET.

From the 84-player qualifying field, five will advance to the 36-hole final qualifying in June.

Approximately 90 to 100 players will then advance to the 124th Open, which will be played at famed Pinehurst No. 2 for a fourth time in tournament history.

Past major champions, as well as the top 60 players in the Official World Ranking and top 30 from last year’s PGA Tour FedEx Cup standings are exempt from qualifying.

Charlie Woods, 15, will play at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Thur.

The Pinehurst No. 2 course in North Carolina will host the U.S. Open for the fourth time in June

The United States Golf Association said there are more than 10,000 entries for this year’s championship, the third time it has surpassed the 10,000 barrier, according to Sl.com.

US Open qualifying takes place in 109 local sites in 44 states across the Country plus Canada from April through May and eventually to 13 Final Qualifying sites in May end and early June.

Final Qualifying is also called Golfโ€™s Longest Day, where the participants must play 36 holes to get a chance for the tee time at the third major championship of the season.

Any player participating in qualifying must have a Handicap Index of not more than 0.4 or be a professional.

The elder Woods is a three-time U.S Open winner but he has not claimed a victory on the Pinehurst No. 2 course. He tied third in 1999, two strokes from a winner, Paupะต Stewart, and came second in 2005, again two short of Michael Campbell. He only had a victory at the 2013 U.S. Junior Am and; therefore, the year 2014 saw him not competing for Pinehurst.

Much earlier in the spring, Charlie Woods participated in the pre-qualifier for The Tourโ€™s Cognizant Classic to be held in The Palm Beaches and this was his first time trying to qualify for a Tour-sponsored event.

The younger Woods scored 86 on that but will aim at revising the record during Thursdayโ€™s U.S Open Local Qualifier.

However, Tiger and Charlie Woods participated in the last four PNC Championships, a two-player team event played every December using the scramble. Neither did Team Woods manage to ะผั‹st thะต competition in 2021 nor has the team claimed triumph in this event.

Cameron Kucharโ€™s son Matt, Sunny Kim, Garrett Willis, Reed Greyserman brother of Max, Austin Lemieux son of Mario, Michael Buttacavoli will also compete in the local U.S. Open qualifier on Thursday.
