Dustin Johnson rings the changes as he decides not to renew Pat Perez’s contract on 4Aces GC ahead of the 2025 LIV Golf League season.
Dustin Johnson has decided not to renew the contract of Pat Perez on his LIV Golf team for 2025.
Johnson’s 4Aces GC announced Perez’s official exit on their social media channels just three weeks before the start of the new season.
Perez, 48, had been part of Johnson’s 4Aces GC ever since LIV Golf’s inauguration in the summer of 2022.
The three-time PGA Tour winner rarely brought his best game to the LIV Golf table but he did contribute when it mattered most at the end of the 2022 season as 4Aces GC ran out 2022 team champions.
Perez’s contract was extended ahead of the 2024 season and he was beaming with joy at the time.
Couldn’t be more excited,” a delighted Perez told the media. “It’s phenomenal to remain a part of LIV. I’m very grateful.”
But after a disappointing individual campaign where he failed to register a single top-10 finish in 2024, Perez’s contract was not renewed by Johnson for 2025.
Perez finished the season in a lowly 48th position.
Johnson recently penned a former European Ryder Cup hero and former RangeGoats GC pro Thomas Pieters into his team.
“I only got to play with him a few times in 2024 but I’ve known Thomas for a long time,” recalled two-time major champion and former World No.1 Johnson.
“Yeah, he’s a good player. That is why it was my opinion that adding him to the team was a good call. It makes me think that he contributes to the improvement of the team and we become better competitors.
‘Especially with how strong the teams are, you’ve always got to try to make your team better.’
Pieters finished 30th on the LIV Golf League individual standings in 2024.
The signature of the big-hitting Belgian raised instant alarm bells that Perez’s days were numbered on 4Aces GC.
And that is now officially the case.
As for 4Aces GC it includes Johnson as a captain and Pieters, Patrick Reed, former the Masters champion and Harold Varner III.
It was expected that Perez could still be part of the team as their spare tyre, but that will not be the case.
Perez will now leave 4Aces GC and the LIV Golf League for the rest of his life.
On the exact question of whether Perez would fancy his chances of fighting his way back into the LIV Golf circuit through the Asian Tour International Series later in the current season remains to be seen.
“FOREVER A 4ACE! The 4Aces GC official Twitter page wrote, “THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING, PAT PEREZ” alongside a video of Perez.
“Thank you PP, legend,” responded the official account of LIV Golf League.
