Sergio Garcia makes major announcement ahead of starting out his 2025 golf season

LIV Golf star Sergio Garcia takes to social media to confirm a major announcement ahead of the 2025 season.

LIV Golf star Sergio Garcia has been handed an invite to compete in the 2025 U.S. PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club from 15-18 May.

Garcia, 45, confirmed his major news via his official Instagram page on 1 February.

“It’s a great honor to be invited to play in the 107th @PGAChampionship in Quail Hollow. Vamos!”

Garcia famously burst on the major scene when running Tiger Woods close to the 1999 U.S. PGA Championship at Medinah.

He would finish runner-up that week and it remains his best U.S. PGA finish of his career to date.

Garcia failed to qualify for the last two renewals of the U.S. PGA Championship.

That coincided with his move to LIV Golf in 2022.

The Spaniard has missed the last seven cuts at the U.S. PGA.

But he will be very much looking to set that record straight in 2025, especially with a return to the European Ryder Cup team on his mind.

Garcia won his sole major title to date at the 2017 Masters at famed Augusta National.

He is also the all-time record Ryder Cup points scorer with 28.5 points.

Garcia confirmed at the end of last year he would be returning to the DP World Tour in 2025.

He had terminated his membership of the DP World Tour in May 2023 – along with fellow Ryder Cup legends Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter – after losing his appeal against fines for having joined LIV Golf in 2022.

But fast forward less than two years and Garcia has now paid off his fines and once again become a member of the DP World Tour under Category 1 membership.

It is understood Garcia paid off $1m in fines in order to return to the DP World Tour.

Garcia’s decision to come back to the DP World Tour now gives him a chance to become eligible for Luke Donald’s 2025 European Ryder Cup side in New York this September.

Should Garcia make Donald’s European Ryder Cup team then he will join Westwood and Sir Nick Faldo for a record 11 appearances.

Fireballs GC team is under the leadership of Garcia as their captain.

Next week the fourth LIV Golf season receives its commencement in Riyadh Saudi Arabia as he starts his yearly commitment.

On 10 January Garcia announced that his Fireballs received the highly-rated Spanish youngster Luis Masaveu for their team.

The 22-year-old Masaveu became a professional player in October 2023 following his dominant amateur run at 2024 U.S. Amateur Championships until reaching the semi-finals.

At Royal Troon he achieved a place in the final round of the 2024 Open while also ranking as the best amateur during the Spanish Open in Madrid.

Garcia made a decision to dismiss Eugenio Chacarra from the Fireballs at the end of their 2022 campaign. The vacancy was then filled by Luis Masaveu.

Besides leading players David Puig and Abraham Ancer the Fireballs team consists of two additional members including Abraham Ancer who has played on the PGA Tour previously.

Garcia expressed his excitement about Luis joining the Fireballs because he finds both his physical charm and excellent character appealing to the team.

“This is what we try to have. I am thrilled to have added him to the team since he brings significant potential together with perfect compatibility for our group.
