PGA Tour golfer Collin Morikawa sparks war of words with former major winner.

PGA Tour member Collin Morikawa has hit back at Lucas Glover’s claim that AimPoint putting should be banned on the circuit to speed up pace of play.

Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa says the PGA Tour should consider banning long putters as he offered his take on Lucas Glover’s plan to combat slow play.

Former U.S. Open champion Glover outlined an eight-point plan following the conclusion of the Farmers Insurance Open and American Express that saw golfers taking in excess of five hours to complete 18 holes.

Glover argued that distance measuring devices should be permitted, every group should have a designated bunker raker, no honorary observers should be allowed within the ropes and sign bearers should be scrapped.

The 45-year-old also slammed the use of AimPoint on the greens, saying the putting method ‘hasn’t helped anybody make more putts’ since its inception. “It needs to be banned,” he said. “It takes forever.”

Morikawa – an AimPoint user – was asked about what Glover had to say before this week’s Genesis Invitational.

“I have nothing against Lucas,” Morikawa said. “But if we’re banning AimPoint I think we should ban long putters as well.”

Glover switched to a long putter after suffering with the yips.

He hit one of the greatest yips of all-time and worked with a Navy SEAL to overcome his putting woes

Morikawa admitted AimPoint does take longer if you’re ‘not doing it properly’.

The 28-year-old said golfers should be using it whilst their playing partners hit so as to speed things along.

“I think there’s a respect issue,” he said.

“I think some players might get a little bit too close to the hole and I get that.

“Wetting the ball with the wrong marks and feet from another player can ruin both lines and putts so you must stay further from the hole.

The comment remains in direct conversation about other golfers freely moving near the hole when players pick up their putts.

According to him 1,000 per cent of AimPoint has made a positive impact on his overall performance. The professionals who provide commentary on air prefer to ask why someone would use the AimPoint method for particular putts.

The system provides me with key understanding regarding my putting technique and initial setup process. I obtain my initial putt evaluation through the same methodology as using measurements from behind either the hole or the ball.

According to Morikawa some golfers utilize AimPoint at incorrect locations or spots.

Morikawa advised that golfers should recognize their pace level to improve their performance.

Such a system enables users to alert others about slow speeds because they need immediate intervention.
