The US President made a distasteful remark about the former golfer and his daughter was not pleased.
A golf legend’s daughter has already made her feelings clear after Donald Trump made some unsavoury comments about her late father.
Trump, 78, made the remarks about Arnold Palmer – who passed away in 2016 – when the now-US President was speaking at a campaign rally in October 2024.
The 78-year-old spoke in Palmer’s hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, when he made comments about the size of the former golfer’s penis to the dismay of many – including the golfer’s daughter.
This is a guy that was all man,” said Trump.
This man was strong and tough, and … when he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there – they said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable.’”
During his trophy-laden playing career, Palmer won 62 PGA tour events, four Masters, a U.S Open and two Open Championships just to name a few of his several accolades and is widely considered to be one of the best golfers of all time.
But his daughter, Peg Palmer Wears, was not at all pleased by Trump’s comments about her father and hit back when speaking on ABC News in the days that followed.
“Being at the airport, which is named for my dad, where he flew out of to go to work every day or every week, you know, to come there and talk about … hackneyed anecdotes from the locker room … seemed disrespectful and inappropriate to me,” said Wears.
Those attending Trump’s rallies need to hear specific details about his candidacy because he should clarify some of his previous threats they received from him,” she continued. This decision to hide crucial matters about the coming election through his father makes me feel completely uncomfortable because vital information should always be presented to voters before they choose their candidate.
According to Wears Trump appreciates Palmer since her father backed the Republican party before he passed away in 2016 yet she doubts he would approve of present US conditions.
According to Sporting News Wears discussed her father in 2018 and described how he managed to progress from poverty to prosperity during his lifetime. Her father supported the Republican party during the administration of Goldwater. Discussion of political matters became off-limits between us. Our viewpoints were completely opposite so battle was pointless.
She continued by describing his disciplinary nature. The guidance he received from others made him want to establish himself as a positive role model for others. The behavior and decreasing ethical standards of Donald Trump deeply disturbed Wears who had always praised his character.
Many people expressed disapproval but Trump secured presidential victory and gained the position of the 47th U.S. President.
