Viktor Hovland withdraws in group with Scottie Scheffler during final round of Travelers Championship.
Viktor Hovland has been forced to withdraw from the Travelers Championship during the final round due to a neck injury.
Hovland, 27, was playing alongside Scottie Scheffler and Taylor Pendrith in Sunday’s final round.
But the European Ryder Cup star was seen struggling with neck pain in the early stages of the round.
After making bogey on the 2nd after a couple of duffed chips, Hovland then flung his tee shot way to the right on the 3rd.
As he walked slowly along the fairway, Hovland took a moment to shake hands with Scheffler and Pendrith.
His withdrawal is the fourth of the week at the Travelers Championship, which is the last Signature Event of the PGA Tour season.
Jordan Spieth exited during the opening round, followed by Si Woo Kim in the second. Eric Cole also pulled out on Sunday morning due to illness.
Recently, Hovland has shown a strong return to form on the PGA Tour. On Saturday, he delivered an impressive 7-under 63 to move to 6-under overall at the Travelers.
Earlier in March, the Norwegian claimed his seventh PGA Tour victory at the Valspar Championship.
Since then, he’s secured four top-25 finishes in his past six starts, including a solo third at last week’s U.S. Open.
That performance at Oakmont pushed him back into the world’s top 10, where he now ranks ninth.
Hovland will now focus on recovering from a neck injury in time for The Open, which takes place in four weeks.
The Travelers Championship features a massive $20 million prize fund, with $3.6 million awarded to the winner.
England’s Tommy Fleetwood leads by three shots over Russell Henley and Keegan Bradley as the final round begins.
Fleetwood is chasing his first PGA Tour win in what is his 159th appearance, having finished runner-up five times and placed in the top 10 on 41 occasions.
