Lewis Hamilton to drive a McLaren at Brazil Grand Prix as he pays tribute to home icon
Lewis Hamilton is set to drive one of Ayrton Senna’s old cars in a McLaren this weekend at the Brazil Grand Prix, as a tribute to the Brazilian racer.
Lewis Hamilton will be behind the wheel of a McLaren in honor of the late Ayrton Senna at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
This year commemorates the thirtieth year since the passing of the iconic figure, and his devoted local fans still revere the three-time world champion. Senna died at Imola but his legacy endures.
During the year, accolades have been given to the Brazilian driver. At the Monaco Grand Prix this year, McLaren featured a special yellow, green, and blue livery inspired by Senna’s helmet design in Monte Carlo, where the Brazilian won the race six times.
Hamilton, who has openly expressed his admiration for Senna for a long time, will now join the list of Formula 1 personalities honoring him. Band, a media source located in Brazil, has stated that Hamilton, who is nearing the end of his time with Mercedes, is scheduled to do a demonstration drive in a McLaren MP4/5B at Interlagos.
It is one of the cars that Senna won a world championship in, with the Brazilian dominating the sport in 1988, 1990, and 1991. Hamilton has triumphed at Interlagos three times before, winning in 2016, 2018, and 2021. He was given honorary citizenship of Brazil before the 2022 race in Sao Paulo.
Hamilton received a race-worn helmet from the Senna family as a token of their long standing relationship after matching the Brazilian’s number of pole positions at the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix.
The event ‘Senna Sempre’ is set for Saturday at 5pm local time following the conclusion of all on-track activities for the day. This weekend is one of many race weekends that will include a sprint race and qualifying on Saturday.
Hamilton started following the sport during Senna’s prime and has already expressed his admiration. He shared: “I began watching Formula 1 with my father at the age of four or five.” I was fond of cars. During that period, Senna and Alain Prost stood out as the front-runners and quickly drew my interest.
