Cameron Smith makes fresh PGA Tour claim
Cameron Smith has backed the rival LIV Golf League to overtake the PGA Tour in the next few years.
Cameron Smith says he is backing LIV Golf to overtake the PGA Tour in the future.
Smith recently hopped on Straight Talk with Marik Bourig to discuss a number of topics.
Chief of which was how he feels his LIV Golf career has progressed, the future of the sport and whether he feels he can win a major championship.
Smith predicted LIV will eventually become ‘the tour’.
“The team and stuff is so exciting,” he said.
The stuff we talk about at meetings, not only within the team but within the league.
“Being so worldwide is a really great thing for us, we travel a lot but I think we bring a really good product to places that haven’t seen world class golf in a long time
He added: “I am really excited as a team but as a tour I think we are going to go from strength to strength and I think as time goes on we are going to have better players, more depth and I think we are going to be the tour.”
Smith previously revealed that he does not plan to make any changes to his LIV side for 2025, which is called Ripper.
Lucas Herbert, Marc Leishman and Matt Jones are Smith’s teammates.
Recently, popular Australian golfer and former World No.1 Jason Day recently revealed he approach LIV over a deal.
But he was rejected given his injury problems.
There is no doubt that Smith would welcome the likes of Day on his team.
Or even former Masters champion Adam Scott.
I thought, maybe I was not so productive as before during the past few days.
Smith also told the pod that he found 2024 especially tiring and the he was not satisfied with his performances in the majors.
He admitted that he was careless during his break in the 2023 off season.
Especially the last year or this year, I felt like I played okay in the majors, he said.
Conversely I did a lot of really good prep, and usually when I do really good prep, really good results come for me, but they didn’t really come for me this year.
That was really frustrating, and that is the reason, especially through this of-season – while last of-season, perhaps, I relaxed a bit – it has been all about golf and the Masters. That is our first major of the year.”
Smith added: “Once the British Open finishes that is normally around July everybody immediately looks at the whole golfing world not only the players but what we can do to make ourselves better before the Masters.
I think I am doing a reasonable well so far. That is certainly something that I have to improve in regard to the ability to prepare in the off-season and make sure that I am ready to go—and so far so good.
