Scottie Scheffler makes feelings clear about winning $5,000,000 in crypto alongside Rory McIlroy

Scheffler and McIlroy win The Showdown against LIV Golf stars Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. The PGA Tour pros got the 2.5 points to claim the triumph at this year’s exhibition event organized by crypto.com in Las Vegas. The players were awarded $10 million worth of digital currency in the win.

Here it is worth recalling that prior to the PGA x LIV Showdown, part of golf lovers could not understand the format of rewards. And now Scheffler has arrived to join the fans and wonder where that award came from. The World No. 1 golfer said he doesn’t ‘know a whole lot about Crypto’ after receiving $5 million in crypto as the prize for beating LIV rivals.

The Masters champion, who earned a whopping sum of around $60 million in prizes this year, said he’ll need to do ‘some research’ regarding crypto now. He joked about calling Crypto.com CMO Steven Kalifowitz later to ‘figure it out.’



Replying to a query on what he’ll do with the crypto prize, Scottie Scheffler said, as quoted by Bleacher Report:

“I … don’t know a while lot about crypto but this is good motivation to do some research.”

Rory McIlroy was seen cracking up after the reigning FedExCup champion’s response.

For Tuesday’s made-for-TV golf match, Scottie Scheffler teamed up with Rory McIlroy to defeat Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in The Showdown. Perhaps, the golfers are said to be receiving millions to be a part of the PGA x LIV contest. Aside from a speculated multimillion dollar deal, the quartet had another central motivating factor – $10 million.

Significantly, the prize money was paid in the currency of the event sponsor, Crypto.com., Scheffler and McIlroy got $5m in the Crypto-com “CRO” currency. The price of one Crypto.com coin when the event finished was $0.1851 USD. The golfers with the crypto are absolute masters to decide to hold these or sell them.

Again, it should be understood that Scottie Scheffler has been paid in cryptocurrencies only once. The golfer who claimed a second Green Jacket here and a gold medal at the Summer Olympics and who won the Tour Championship this year. He earned the right to be awarded the PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2024 having pocketed some huge cheques. Currently in 2024, this ace golfer earned $62 million on the golf course alone.
