Phil Mickelson dishes out some banter at a competitor while giving props to a rising star in LIV Golf he believes deserves more recognition.

Phil Mickelson has become a popular figure in LIV Golf’s series of “The Duels” and the LIV Golf star ramped up the rivalry with former PGA Tour man Wesley Bryan in Dallas this week

Phil Mickelson could not resist a cheeky dig at his LIV Golf Duels rival Wesley Bryan when the pair locked horns in front of the media in Dallas this week.

Mickelson, who lost his PGA Tour membership when joining LIV three years ago, will once again compete in The Duels clash in Dallas. The event features some of the breakaway league’s biggest names and the most popular figures in the golf YouTube space.

Also included in the field is Bryan, who is half of the Bryan Bros with his brother George. Like Mickelson, Bryan was handed a PGA Tour suspension for competing in the YouTube tournament as a producer.

Bryan and Mickelson have faced off before on the YouTube scene, a match the former brought up during Thursday’s press conference at Maridoe Golf Club. Bryan claimed Mickeleson feared taking on his younger brother George on the course, something the LIV man accepted.

In doing so, though, he took the chance to fire a brutal put-down on the YouTube star. “I felt like I took it to The Farms, where you have to hit it pretty straight,” Mickelson responded to Bryan. “I was worried about George keeping it in play and doing very well, and I didn’t really have that fear with you.

I didn’t really feel that as we went into our match. Ultimately, I was right. Again.”

Phil Mickelson and Wesley Bryan are set to appear in the newest episode of The Duels, which was filmed in Dallas this week and is scheduled to drop next month on Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel.

A fresh face joining the series is Dean Burmester, who’ll be partnering with Wesley’s brother, George Bryan. During a press conference on Thursday, Mickelson praised Burmester’s game, calling him one of golf’s most underrated talents.

“Dean is seriously one of the most underrated guys out there—no question,” Mickelson said. “I’ve watched him for years, whether he’s winning in the LIV league, the International Series, or back home in South Africa—he’s legit.”

Still, Mickelson couldn’t resist a bit of cheeky trash talk—this time aimed at George Bryan.

“When you pair Dean with the most overrated player, things sort of even out,” he joked.

Mickelson also spoke about his love for YouTube golf, saying it allows for more personality and playful banter than traditional professional events.

“In pro golf, there’s a limit—you can’t really joke around or cross certain lines without consequences,” he explained. “But YouTube golf is different. It’s all about having fun, and part of the fun is the back-and-forth.”
