PGA Tour record-breaker who’s banked $28 million has wife with 23-year age gap.
Tommy Fleetwood is yet to win a PGA Tour event but has still managed to earn almost $28 million from the prestigious tour across his career to date.
The 34-year-old has been a constant presence on the PGA Tour since 2018, after making his mark on the European Tour. Despite not having won a title under the esteemed PGA banner, the Englishman has carved out an impressive career on the world’s greens and fairways in terms of both fame and fortune.
Fleetwood was tantalisingly close to breaking his seven-year drought for global glory at the recent RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, only to slide down the leaderboards and settle for a seventh-place finish with a total score of 13-under-par. The title was eventually claimed by Justin Thomas following a nail-biting play-off with Andrew Novak, with both finishing four strokes ahead of Fleetwood after four rounds.
Even though he left the tournament empty-handed, his earnings from the RBC Heritage contributed to a record that seems unassailable for now.
A REMARKABLE PGA TOUR RECORD.
In March, Fleetwood made headlines by becoming the first player in PGA Tour history to earn over $25 million without winning a single tournament. Just a month later, his total earnings had climbed to over $27 million, according to the PGA Tour’s website. His impressive career includes five second-place finishes, five third-place finishes, 25 top-five placements, and 39 top-ten finishes, as reported by the Irish Star.
Despite not clinching a victory, Fleetwood has consistently come close, finishing as runner-up in both the 2018 and 2019 U.S. Open and Open Championships. He also tied for third at the 2024 Masters and placed fifth at the 2022 PGA Championship.
Speaking in 2023 about not yet winning a title, Fleetwood said he tries to keep a positive mindset: “It’s better than not being in contention at all. Sure, it’s frustrating, but I have to focus on the positives, be proud of the level I’m playing at, and recognize the hard work behind it. I haven’t done much wrong, and I’m feeling very confident.”
A WIFE WHO IS 23 YEARS OLDER.
Fleetwood’s personal life, particularly his relationship with his wife and agent Clare, didn’t begin without challenges. The two met in 2015 when Clare approached him with a business proposal to represent him. They married in 2017, but their relationship initially faced hurdles, especially due to their 23-year age gap. Clare initially brushed off his romantic interest, reportedly telling him, “Don’t be stupid,” when he first expressed his feelings.
Despite her early rejection, Fleetwood remained persistent, and over time, he won her over. The couple eventually tied the knot and had a son together named Frankie. Clare also has two children from a previous relationship—Oscar and Mo.
In a conversation with Fore Play, Fleetwood opened up about the strong connection he shares with his family. He explained how close-knit they are, saying that he often refers to all three kids—Oscar, Mo, and Frankie—as his own. When people ask about his children, he usually responds with, “I have three kids—17, 16, and six.” This often raises eyebrows due to his age, prompting him to explain that the older two are technically his stepchildren. However, he added that he doesn’t really see them that way, especially since he’s been a father figure to Mo since he was five.
Fleetwood expressed gratitude for the deep bond they share, describing the time they spend together as a safe and special space, something he hopes will never change.
