Tom Brady has given clear verdict on New England Patriots and Bill Belichick struggles
With just two wins this season, Bill Belichick is under tremendous pressure at the New England Patriots, but Tom Brady has already stated that it’s unlikely that anything will change.
After a lackluster 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, the New England Patriots dropped to a 2-8 record, but Tom Brady doesn’t think Bill Belichick will change..
The Patriots only scored two field goals against the Colts in Germany, as thousands of international fans endured a tough offensive watch. The Patriots were 3-0 when playing internationally heading into Sunday’s game, but the defeat shows just how far they’ve fallen.
Ever since Brady left the franchise in 2020 the Patriots have struggled, and it’s looking like this season will be the worst yet in the long coaching career of Belichick. But even though it’s code red in New England, Brady has previously predicted that Belichick will stick with the same “style” he knows rather than make urgent changes.
I think the results are different from what they’ve been, but I know that he’s still got the same work ethic, he’s got the same coaching style,” Brady said on his “Let’s Go!” podcast on SiriusXM in October. “I think the thing that I think as I watch not only the Patriots but a lot of other things, football’s a hard sport.
“You know, it was very different when I was in there because I could control a lot of the outcome. When I’m sitting here watching from afar I realize, God, there’s a lot of variables, there’s a lot of things that need to go right in order to have team success.
And I was a part of a lot of those teams and I didn’t take any of those things for granted. I needed a great defense. I needed a great kicker. Obviously, I needed a great coach. I needed great receivers and a great O-line. If I was gonna be successful as a player, I needed all those things.
“And I was fortunate to have a lot of those things over a long period of time. So, the teams that lose, they’re putting a lot into it. The teams that win, they’re putting a lot into it. It’s a relentless sport and nothing is given to you. It’s all hard. Losing is hard, winning is hard. To be in it year in and year out is hard. To lose and have a horrible season is very hard.”
Given that Belichick has always struggled to win without Brady, some Patriots fans even think that his amazing record is tarnished as a result of the team’s recent struggles. With current quarterback Mac Jones, the Patriots finished 10-7 in 2021, but that is still the only winning season under Belichick’s tenure at the team without Brady.
Belichick and the Patriots had a 249-75 career record with Brady, which resulted in six Super Bowl rings. Belichick’s record is 82-98 without Brady at the Patriots, and owner Robert Kraft will have to make a significant choice at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign.
