F1 star facing ‘immediate sacking’ after Miami Grand Prix with replacement already lined up

A Formula 1 driver is reportedly facing an uncertain future, with growing speculation that he may be dropped before the next race.

The Miami Grand Prix on Sunday saw a dominant performance by McLaren, as Oscar Piastri crossed the finish line first, followed by teammate Lando Norris.

The McLaren duo finished over 35 seconds ahead of George Russell in third place, while reigning champion Max Verstappen came in fourth.

The race featured plenty of drama, particularly in the early stages.

Four drivers were forced to retire: Oliver Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto encountered mechanical issues, while Jack Doohan and Liam Lawson retired after a collision on the first lap.

Alpine rookie Doohan clipped Lawson’s Racing Bulls car, resulting in a puncture.

The Australian was forced to retire on the opening lap, adding to his difficult start in F1.

Doohan has already crashed out at the season opener in Australia, received penalties in China, and suffered a major crash during practice in Japan.

Following his latest setback in Miami, reports suggest Doohan might be replaced before the next race in Imola in two weeks.

According to The Race, Alpine could make a driver change ahead of the upcoming triple-header.

The report noted: “After the Miami Grand Prix weekend, The Race understands a change early in the season remains possible, potentially in time for the triple-header starting at Imola in two weeks.”

Doohan has faced significant pressure since Alpine signed Franco Colapinto, currently the team’s reserve driver.

The Argentine, who impressed last season with Williams, is seen as the frontrunner to step in if Doohan is dropped.

Speaking before the race weekend, Alpine team boss Oliver Oakes said: “I know a lot of fans in Argentina would love to see him in the car this Sunday.

“We’ve been transparent that’s just speculation. Jack needs to keep performing well. Naturally, there will always be rumors. As things stand, Jack and Pierre are our drivers. We’ve made that clear. Of course, we always assess the situation, but for now, that’s the lineup.”
