Scottie Scheffler confesses rule break as PGA Championship star smashes club
Scottie Scheffler became the PGA Championship winner for the first time, winning his third major championship at Quail Hollow. The American was five strokes ahead of countrymen Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley, who tied for second.
Frustrations boiled over on a tough weekend for many of golf’s biggest names. Rory McIlroy was way behind the leading pack and finished the tournament three over par. Jon Rahm had initially tied with Scheffler on the back nine, only to make a series of errors and end seven shots behind the leader. Things also got too much for Wyndham Clark, who smashed his club out of frustration.
Scottie Scheffler confesses to same rule break as Rory McIlroy.
Scottie Scheffler revealed that he was forced to change his driver ahead of the PGA Championship.
Just like Rory McIlroy, the eventual champion’s club did not meet the strict pre-tournament standards and was told to make a change.
“My driver did fail me this week,” Scheffler revealed after sealing his victory in the final round.
“We had a feeling that it was going to be coming because I’ve used that driver for over a year. I was kind of fortunate for it to last that long, I felt like.”
Scheffler was error-free at Quail Hollow, hitting 11 under par and winning by five strokes.
