Sergio Perez’s long-term future with Red Bull remains uncertain following the conclusion of the 2023 season, but the Mexican driver is determined to prove his doubters wrong.
Sergio Perez is determined to put an end to Max Verstappen’s dominance in Formula 1, despite facing uncertainty about his own future at Red Bull.
Although Perez finished as the runner-up in the 2023 season, his performance towards the end raised concerns about his position in the team. However, the 33-year-old Mexican driver is focused on winning the championship in 2024 and surpassing his previous achievement.
He acknowledges the challenge ahead and plans to use the winter break to start the season strong and maintain consistency throughout. Perez believes that better pace and a more consistent season are necessary for improvement.
He admits that he didn’t feel completely comfortable with this year’s car but hopes for a stronger performance next year. He also gives credit to Verstappen for his exceptional season.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has stated that everything is open for Perez’s future at the team, indicating that they want the most competitive pairing possible.
“Max and Checo have been a tremendously successful pairing. Checo in his three years with us has finished fourth, third and second – so he’s on a good trajectory! Daniel is well known to us, it’s great to have him back in the Red Bull fold. Of course, everything is open for 2025 onwards. So for us to have options both internally and also externally is no bad place to be.”
