Shane Lowry was filmed getting angry during the final round of the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches at PGA National.
Sometimes golf clubs need to die, just ask Shane Lowry.
The winner of the 2019 Open was caught on camera showing frustration after hitting a stray shot in the last round of the Cognizant Classic.
Due to the severe weather conditions of rain and wind at PGA National, the PGA Tour event had to be extended to finish on Monday.
Austin Eckroat easily achieved his first Tour win on Monday, while Lowry’s week was full of missed opportunities.
Lowry’s feelings towards PGA National are complex: he enjoys the challenge of playing tough courses and facing challenging weather conditions.
The Irishman was close to winning this tournament in 2022 but came unstuck on the 72nd hole.
Lowry needed a birdie to force a playoff but a rainy finish saw him end up finishing one behind the champion Sepp Straka.
It left Lowry incandescent with rage and he immediately told reporters the near miss was ‘hard to take’.
“Feel like I’ve got the tournament stolen from me today,” he said 12 months ago.
“I played the golf perfectly to win the tournament, and that’s this game sometimes and that’s this level.
“That was as bad a break [the weather] as I’ve ever got.”

A year later, Lowry will be leaving PGA National once more, feeling disappointed and probably even more angry.
After completing 36 holes, he was in a tie for the lead and hoping to win his first tournament since he won the 2022 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
He ended up coming in four shots behind Eckroat and struggled through a disappointing last round. He became extremely frustrated when the Bear Trap caused yet another casualty.
His shot with a tee at the 15th hole, a par-3, landed in the water and Lowry was very unhappy about it. Not even a little bit.
Lowry was disappointed after finding out where his golf ball had landed, so he threw his iron on the ground and tried to kick it.
Only he whiffed completely.
One X user wrote: “Who among us hasn’t whiffed a kick?”
“Charlie Brown made a whole f—ing career out of it,” came the reply.
