Perez penalised in huge Saudi Arabian GP twist

Sergio Perez has been penalised by the stewards at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, following an unsafe release.

Like most drivers, Perez made his first pit stop during the initial safety car period due to Lance Stroll’s crash at Turn 22 on the sixth lap. When Perez entered the pit-stop, he was in second place.

However, he was sent back into the race in a way that blocked Fernando Alonso’s path. Alonso immediately raised concerns over the communication system that he almost had a collision with Perez. The race officials promptly looked into the incident.

If the Mexican driver does not make another pit stop at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, a five-second time penalty will be imposed on his final time.

In other parts of the race, Kevin Magnussen received a 10-second time penalty, but Lando Norris was not found to have made a false start. As of now, Stroll and Pierre Gasly are the only drivers who have retired from the race.
