Paul Casey was left to do the Crushers GC press conference alone after his team’s victory in Hong Kong
Paul Casey had nothing but good things to say about his Crushers GC team leader Bryson DeChambeau, even though Bryson didn’t show up for their press talk after they won in Hong Kong.
Casey almost won the solo prize on Sunday, but he came second to Abraham Ancer after a big three-way playoff. He didn’t win by himself, but he did help his team, the Crushers, win again. After the Hong Kong victory, Casey had to talk to the press by himself because DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri were all not there. The English golfer said sorry for this but had nothing but kind words for his team.
“Summing up the week for the team, so proud of my team. My team is awesome. Even though they’re not here; they’ve all deserted me. I make my apologies for my team. Charles Howell has got a flight I think about 7:30 and so does Nicky’s caddie, but I’ve got no idea where Bryson is. He’s got no excuses.”
Despite DeChambeau not being present, Casey had nothing but praise for his captain. He said that the captain has embraced the team spirit of the competition better than anyone else on the LIV circuit. This could have been useful to Zach Johnson’s Ryder Cup team last Autumn after he chose to leave DeChambeau out of his 12-man team that went to Rome.
Casey remarked that the team consisted of fantastic individuals with intangible qualities that were discussed briefly after the Jeddah event.
He emphasized his firm belief in the team’s unique strengths. Casey also praised Bryson’s leadership as captain, citing his effectiveness and skill in the role. I believe that a crucial aspect of good leadership as a captain is allowing team members to showcase their strengths in order to excel in the game of golf.
Our captain does not attempt to micromanage us; he trusts us to perform to the best of our abilities.
Our team has achieved some impressive outcomes, with Jeddah being a particularly surprising success. The unexpected nature of the guys shooting 20-under par on Sunday was surprising.
Despite this, the speaker doesn’t believe they were ranked on the leaderboard with nine holes left. They are proud of the performance.
During Sunday’s final round at Hong Kong Golf Club, Casey delivered one of his strongest performances in LIV Golf so far. Casey, a previous PGA Tour standout, managed to make six birdies during his round of 18 holes in Hong Kong, without any bogeys, in rainy weather.
The most noteworthy moment occurred on his last shot of the final round, when Casey successfully sank a birdie from the bunker at the 16th hole, earning himself a spot in a playoff with Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith.
Casey did not understand the significance of his chip-in from the sand on the leaderboard at the time. He admitted, “I wasn’t aware of the scores.”
“I had a feeling it was a close game. It wasn’t until I made the shot and checked the leaderboard that I realized my position.
Overall, it was a great week, but today’s round of golf was probably one of the best I’ve played in the last six months or so.”
