Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy had another frustrating week on the PGA Tour at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

He had to struggle to qualify for the competition, but in his usual style, McIlroy surprisingly scored a 68 on moving day to suddenly become a strong contender.”
“You might have assumed that McIlroy believed in his chances, considering he was only five strokes behind the top-ranked player in the world, Scottie Scheffler.” However, the Northern Irishman had a rough start to his Sunday at Bay Hill, being an impressive 5-over par after the first nine holes.
His frustration was clearly visible from the beginning and, by the third hole, he expressed his anger by causing a minor damage to the fringe of the green.
That was after his 11-footer for par slid by the right hand side of the cup.
In fairness, the outburst was mild in comparison to his third round hissy fit where was filmed smashing up a tee box marker.
In fairness, McIlroy wasn’t the only player to be more than a tad annoyed with their performance.
Wyndham Clark was also filmed slamming his wedge into the turf after chunking a chip early on in the third round.
Clark was later accused of playing fast and loose with the rules. He denied cheating.

A number of golf fans weren’t pleased after seeing the clip of McIlroy rip up the green.
One person on X expressing that if Mr. Palmer were alive, he would receive a sternly worded letter.
Another person commented that it is time to impose penalties for the individual’s actions, stating that fines hold no weight for wealthy individuals like him. McIlroy finished with a final score of 4-over 76 in the last round, resulting in a 21st place tie.
McIlroy has placed within the top 25 in his past three PGA Tour events, in addition to participating in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament.
McIlroy’s next tournament is the prestigious Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, where he emerged victorious in 2019.
