KEITH MITCHELL MAKES STUNNING EAGLE AT 18 TO LEAD VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Keith Mitchell holes out for eagle on 18 to take the lead at Valspar Championship.

Keith Mitchell holed out for a spectular eagle on the par-4 18th to take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the Valspar Championship.

Mitchell, aged 32, scored a back-nine of 29 in the Valspar Championship, which was only the fourth time in history, resulting in a round of 66 and bringing his score to 10-under par.    He was the first player in PGA Tour history to complete the Snake Pit (holes 16-18) in 4-under par in a single round.

Mitchell scored birdies on the challenging 16th par-4 and 17th par-3 holes.

Afterward, he hit his approach shot into the fairway and then sank the ball for a hole-out on the 18th par-4 hole.

Mitchell initially fell behind the group of competitors after scoring a 1-over 37 on the first hole, but he quickly recovered by playing the final seven holes with an impressive 6-under par.

Mitchell won his sole event at the 2019 Honda Classic.

It was a day to forget for Justin Thomas, who carded a disastrous 8-over 79 to fall from 5-under par back to 3-over par.

Thomas birdied the 1st hole but then made seven bogeys and a double-bogey to the house.
