JJ Spaun and his wife’s ‘unusual’ interaction draws attention shortly after U.S. Open victory.

Golf fans spotted the awkward interaction between J.J. Spaun and his wife, Melody, shortly after the American golfer emerged victorious at the U.S. Open on Sunday.

Eagle-eyed viewers couldn’t help but notice an “awkward” interaction between J.J. Spaun and his wife, Melody moments after the American golfer won the U.S. Open

On Sunday, Spaun overcame torrential downpours and the challenging conditions at Oakmont en route to securing the first major championship of his career. Just three months prior, he suffered an agonizing loss to Rory McIlory in The Players — but used the gut-wrenching defeat as motivation in the U.S. Open.

Fresh off his thrilling victory, Spaun immediately went to celebrate with his two daughters and wife. But several golf fans spotted that the 34-year-old appeared to be ignoring his partner during the early festivities.

Search ‘JJ Spaun wife.’ Glad it’s not just our living room who all think he and his wife must not be getting along. Man that was awkward,” one X user wrote, with another adding: “Oh there’s some drama between Spaun and his wife. They didn’t even acknowledge each other.”

A third chimed in: “JJ Spaun at no point even acknowledged his wife after winning.”

Spaun did in fact give his wife a kiss after his triumph but the overall distant nature between the two was spotted by viewers

Spaun’s win was all the more improbable considering he bogeyed five of the first six holes to kick off his final round. But the Los Angeles, California native caught fire down the stretch, sinking birdies on four of the final nine — including an incredible 64-foot birdie putt at No. 18 to seal his victory at 1-under.

“I never thought I would be here holding this trophy,” Spaun said. “I mean, I’ve always had aspirations and dreams.

“But a few months ago, I never knew what my ceiling was. I never knew how good I could be, but I’m just proud that I’ve been resilient in my career and pushed through a lot of things and just trying to be the best golfer I can be.

“And, you know, I’m happy to display that today at Oakmont.”

Reflecting on how he managed to bounce back from a tough start, Spaun credited the weather delay for giving him a chance to mentally reset. “To be honest, I don’t think I really kept my composure, especially with all the breaks going my way,” he said.

“I was just trying to dig deep and hit solid shots down the stretch. But honestly, the rain delay completely changed the feel of the day. Something similar happened to me at The Players, so I drew from that experience and just kept fighting.”

He also expressed gratitude to his family and coaches, acknowledging their behind-the-scenes support. “I’m incredibly lucky to have such a strong support system encouraging me in ways most people never see,” Spaun shared.

“I’m really proud of how I fought through it all—and even more proud to now call myself the U.S. Open champion.”
