LIV Golf star joins Poulter in withdrawing from Asian Tour England event.
LIV Golf pro Graeme McDowell has become the latest big name to withdraw from the International Series event in England on the Asian Tour.
Professional golfer Graeme McDowell from LIV Golf has decided to pull out of the upcoming Asian Tour competition to be held at Fox Hills. McDowell is the most recent well-known player to withdraw from the International Series event in Surrey. Ian Poulter has chosen not to participate in the tournament scheduled from 8-11 August due to an ankle injury.
Poulter expressed disappointment for not being able to participate in the competition due to the recurrence of his old injury, and he was recommended to rest in order to alleviate the inflammation.
He said he ‘planned’ on still turning up to watch some golf on Saturday.
The Majesticks captain was expected to make his second home appearance inside a month, following on from LIV Golf United Kingdom at JCB Golf & Country Club.
Poulter finished in a tie for 27th in Staffordshire and McDowell finished two places below his former Ryder Cup teammate.
No reason has been given for McDowell’s withdrawal at the time of publication.
McDowell’s withdrawal brings the number of LIV Golf players competing this week down to 16.
Notable players left in the field include Thomas Pieters, Harold Varner III, Peter Uihlein, Anirban Lahiri and Peter Uhlein.
The International Series England event is the fourth of 10 elevated events on the 2024 Asian Tour schedule.
The tournament has a prize purse of $2,000,000.
American Andy Ogletree is the defending champion.
John Catlin currently leads the order of merit.
The leading player will earn a golden ticket to the 2025 LIV Golf League.
Players who finished from second to eighth in the standings will earn automatic entry into LIV Golf’s qualifying school at the end of the season.
LIV Golf Promotions will offer three spots.
