Jack Nicklaus gets his wish with latest PGA Tour announcement.
Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus will be delighted the Memorial has moved back to its regular date after the PGA Tour announced their 2025 schedule.
Jack Nicklaus’s wish has been granted as the PGA Tour released their schedule for 2025.
The Golden Bear expressed displeasure over the Memorial Tournament being rescheduled a week before the U.S. Open this year.
During his yearly press briefing at Muirfield Village, the 84-year-old stated his wish for the PGA Tour event to return to its traditional date, the week after Memorial Day.
“When I played, I rarely played a week before any major championship,” Nicklaus previously said.
“So I’m asked to be part of putting on a golf tournament in a week that I would never play.”
Nicklaus said he agreed to move the Memorial for 2024 as a favour to the Tour.
For the 2025 season, the Memorial will be played two weeks prior to the U.S. Open, with the Canadian Open moving into the slot before the major.
PGA Tour members were written to on 14 August which contained the full schedule.
As ever, the FedExCup regular season and playoffs will feature 39 stops with events across the United States, Mexico, Canada, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
There are eight signature events.
Details of the FedExCup Fall Schedule will be revealed later, the Tour said.
“The PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, stated in a memo that the changes made in the schedule and competition for 2024 were important in improving the PGA Tour for fans and players.”
Fields were much stronger overall, and the signature events offered fans additional chances to watch the top golfers of the PGA Tour compete against each other. Entering the second year of this revamped schedule, it is evident that winning on the PGA Tour remains a challenging and gratifying achievement in the world of sports. “We appreciate all of our members, including our player directors and player advisory council, as well as our tournaments and partners.” It has been confirmed that Truist will be the main sponsor of the Tour’s event in Charlotte.
The financial company has agreed to sponsor the event at Quail Hollow Club for a period of seven years.
RBC has agreed to renew both the Heritage and Canadian Open for one more year. The bank is the only main sponsor of the Tour. This indicates that the PGA Tour is currently completely sponsored for the seventh consecutive year.
