Max Verstappen and Red Bull looking to get back on track at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Baku: At this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is aiming for a strong individual and team performance to support Red Bull’s comeback and maintain its lead in the Formula One title battle.

The Dutchman comes into Baku with a 62-point lead over Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship, following a run of six races without a win that has coincided with the comeback of his competitors.

His team’s lead in the constructors’ standings over McLaren has been reduced to just eight points.

The Spanish Grand Prix in June was Verstappen’s final triumph, as well as the team’s last triumph. Teammate Sergio Perez’s most recent victory was on Baku’s streets last year, marking his second victory in Azerbaijan and sixth career victory overall.

If McLaren beats Red Bull by nine points on Sunday, the dominance that has seen them dominate the constructors’ title for almost two years—since the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix—will come to an end.

Removing from the top place might be considered important in the wake of Aston Martin’s glamorous introduction of Adrian Newey, the star designer of Red Bull, as its future managing technical partner on Tuesday.

Since Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won at Monza on September 1, Verstappen and Perez have been hard at work trying to find ways to turn around their recent form slump.

“Monza was a tough race for us, and it is our priority to get our form back to where it needs to be,” Verstappen added.
