A promising golfer has been rushed to hospital in Australia after being accidentally struck in the face by a ball on the course.
An emerging Australian golfer has been rushed to hospital and diagnosed of needing an emergency eye operation after an accident during the game.
Jeff Guan, who made his PGA Tour debut last week, was taken to the hospital after the accident occurred at Catalina Club in Batemans Bay, Australia, on Friday.
Guan had been competing at the NSW Open regional qualifier event when he was the unfortunate victim of a freak accident. The 20-year-old was accidentally struck by a stray shot from one of his Pro-Am partners during the qualifying event.
Medics rushed to the scene to treat Guan on the golf course, before he was airlifted by helicopter to the medical facility in Canberra for emergency eye surgery.
He got three fractures of the orbit of his left eye, but it is still unclear if he will lose the sight in the eye as his burgeoning career in golf may be cut short.
Guan’s coach Paul Davis saddened with the incident said that there are issues that Guan could lose his vision as they wait for more results.
“Of course there are concerns that he may lose some sight but we will only know how severe that may be when he goes to Sydney for a confirmation,” Davis told the outlet.
Oh it’s grotesque … this was in fact the first pro- am Jeff ever played in. It is just the worst possible news after such a wonderful week in California with such good pictures.
The PGA Tour of Australia board later came out and announced they would take Guan to an eye specialist to analyze the extent of the damage and wished the youngster a fast recovery.
It read: On behalf of the PGA of Australia, Golf NSW and Golf Australia, we wanted to thanked all those who came to the aid of Jeff in the aftermath of this incident and wish to extend our hope that he has a speedy recovery.
We would request the family be given some space at this time, however, we will try and give more information on his condition in the near future.
The Australian golfer who is now 989 in the global rankings started his PGA tour career at the Procore Championship in September.
He was able to get only even par on the 36 holes which gave him a cumulative score of 144 thus missing the cut. But a recent talent spotlight puts him in the path to a promising future in the game.
Later in the 2022 Junior Presidents Cup, Guan was the only Australian on the International team and on the same year promise further by finishing inside the top twenty five in both the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open in 2023.
