Marco Penge has revealed that he is stepping away from the PGA Tour as he prioritizes both his mental and physical well-being following a challenging stretch on and off the golf course.
The 28-year-old English golfer shared the emotional update after admitting he has been battling a sinus infection along with ongoing vertigo symptoms that have affected him in recent weeks. Away from golf, Penge and his family have also been dealing with a deeply personal situation after his newborn son, Romeo, spent 21 days in the neonatal intensive care unit earlier this year.
Despite showing flashes of promise during his rookie PGA Tour campaign, Penge admitted that the toll of recent events has made it necessary for him to take a break from competition. In a heartfelt message, he explained that while his latest tournament did not go as planned, his focus now is on getting himself healthy again before returning to the sport.
“This week didn’t go the way I wanted it to but that’s golf,” Penge wrote. “Moving forward, I have decided that I am going to take some time off to get my health back to where it needs to be.”
Penge has managed to make seven cuts in 12 starts during his debut PGA Tour season and currently sits 83rd in the FedEx Cup standings, a respectable position for a rookie adapting to life at the highest level of professional golf. However, the Englishman made it clear that his health and family must come first during this difficult period.
